Blog Journal #1
My name is Sofie and I am a freshman at Florida State University. I am majoring in English and minoring in film studies, and I would like to be a writer and/or an English professor. I enjoy writing poetry, plays, and essays. My biggest inspirations as a writer are Susan Sontag, Tony Kushner, Ocean Vuong, Frank O’Hara, and Mary Oliver. I am very drawn to the idea of teaching literature and writing because the English teachers I’ve had in the past have had a major positive impact on my self-esteem as an artist, and I would like to do that for others.
I do not have very much experience using technology in an
educational setting. I have taken some dual enrollment classes online through
the University of New Orleans. These classes took place on Moodle, which is a
pretty straightforward website like Canvas, and I was able to navigate it
easily. This is my first year using Zoom, but I think I’m getting the hang of
it.
Most of my personal learning network is made up of people I’ve
found through writing and acting opportunities. I’ve been published in multiple
literary journals/magazines, and occasionally the publishers I worked with on
that will reach out to me about new opportunities for workshopping and
publishing my work. I find these publishers through the website Submittable,
which is a website that connects writers and artists with publishers. I also find
opportunities to write and act through local Facebook pages in my hometown.
Hi Sofie, it seems like you've been building your writing PLN for several years. It's fantastic! You will learn some Web 2.0 technologies (social media, Wikis, etc.) to help build your PLN as a teacher in this class. You may use those technologies for your writing PLN as well.
ReplyDeleteHi Sofie! You have very good taste in authors. I can relate to your motivation for becoming an English teacher, as I had a similar experience growing up. What literary magazines have you been published in? Also, Submittable is a great resource/tool for writers that I totally forgot about when making my own PLN diagram!
