Blog Journal #10

As a prospective high school English teacher, data collection would definitely be convenient for gauging and improving students’ enjoyment of my class without the embarrassment that may come with non-anonymous in-class discussion. I’d use it to see which literary formats and genres students enjoy most, so that I can tailor some of the reading materials towards that. I’d also intermittently use data collection to see how well students are understanding the material, so that I can reshape my class as needed. I may also use it to ask students what classroom activities they’re most comfortable with, since some students have social anxiety that may make it difficult for them to participate in verbal class discussions, and they may have alternatives they prefer.

It’s always interesting to me when my classmates are able to bring their own personal viewpoints and experiences to the discussion. I enjoyed reading everyone’s posts for Journal 3 about which technology implementation issues they find most pressing. Some people had some really interesting solutions to these issues that I would not have thought of by myself. I also enjoyed reading about my classmates’ experiences with remote learning. I was very surprised to find out that many of them enjoy it, because I personally do not, but reading their viewpoints definitely changed my opinion of remote learning.

One technology-related skill I would like to learn more about is digital art/graphic design. I have some experience with traditional art, but it seems like digital art has a lot more professional usage. I would like to learn how to create sleek designs that I could integrate into future websites or class materials. One way I could achieve this goal is by taking relevant classes here at FSU. There’s also many good digital art lessons on YouTube that I could follow.

  1. Im also going to be a high school English teacher! I love the way that you are going to use surveys, I think it is very important to check-in with students in order to reach out and help them by providing leniency on assignments. I also found reading about different classmate viewpoints about technology interesting as well. Comparing my experience and knowledge to others and learning from them is super helpful and I'm glad that we have the opportunity to do so!
